A Tibetan singing bowl is a type of bowl that vibrates and produces a rich, deep tone when played. It is said to promote relaxation and offer powerful healing properties. There are two ways to play a Tibetan singing bowl: striking and rimming.
To strike the bowl, you simply hold it in the palm of your non-dominant hand, and the mallet in your dominant hand. Hold the mallet like a baton and lightly strike the bowl with the padded side of the mallet on the bowl’s mid-exterior wall. This will produce a pleasant sound that you can use to meditate or create an OM vibration.
Another way is to hold it in the same way as striking, but instead of hitting the bowl, you rub the rim of the bowl with the mallet in a circular motion. You can start by striking the bowl once to warm it up, and then position the mallet vertically near the rim and begin circling clockwise. You need to apply some pressure and speed to make the bowl sing. As you continue, you will hear a female overtone that sounds sweet and clear.
